Ancient Dunhuang military culture is integral to Dunhuang culture, serving as one of the essential research subjects of Dunhuangology and a primary focus of research at the Yangguan Museum. The scope of ancient Dunhuang military culture is incredibly extensive. After years of study and research, the Yangguan Museum has planned and launched an exhibition to showcase ancient military culture in Dunhuang.
The Exhibition of Ancient Dunhuang Military Culture is divided into five distinct units: The Conflict and Fusion of Han and Minorities, Two Passes and Han Frontier Fortress Enabling Smooth Operation of the Silk Road, Bamboo Slips Recording Ancient Military Culture, The Armed Forces in the Grottoes, and The Frontier Song of Last Words. With over 350 cultural relics and various exhibits on display, the Exhibition provides a comprehensive reflection of the fundamental aspects and historical evolution of ancient Dunhuang military culture.
This exhibition is not to glorify militarism or war. Instead, it aims to foster a deeper understanding of history and promote the national spirit of the Chinese people characterized by peace, unity, and resilience, hoping to contribute to the pursuit of long-term peace and stability.
