Mount Mingshashan lies 5 km away in the southern suburbs of Dunghuang City, famous for its singing sand. The mountain is accumulated by heaving sand with five colors: red, yellow, green, white and black. Crescent Moon-shaped Spring is surrounded by the Mount Mingshashan, known for its shape exactly like a new moon.

In recent years, the number of visitors coming into Crescent Moon-shaped Spring is increasing, bringing different levels of impacts on the ecology protection. In order to protect the Crescent Moon-shaped Spring, fences are installed around the spring allowing no climbing around the core scenic area. Specialized climbing zone is set on the eastward slope of Mount Mingshashan to allow visitors to enjoy the charm of the deserts.
