The Yardang landform is typically formed by wind erosion. Yardangs are found in extremely or partially arid areas. These distinct landforms form on top of unconsolidated fluvial and lacustrine sediments created during the Neogene or Quaternary approximately 20 million years ago. Yardangs take on a variety of shapes including mounds, streamline shapes, walls, towers, columns, and monadnocks as a result of the tectonic uplift, wind forces, flowing water, and gravity.
Mound-shaped Yardang(The length is significantly greater than the width)
Wall-shaped Yardang(The length is slightly greater than the width)
Tower- shaped Yardang(There is little difference between the length and width)
Column-shaped Yardang(Prominent height characteristics)
Monadnock-shaped Yardang (Isolated hill)
