"World Earth Day" Activities in Dunhuang UNESCO Global Geopark

April 22, 2021 is the 52nd World Earth Day. World Earth Day is to publicize General Secretary Xi Jinping's idea of ecological civilization, guide the whole society to establish the concept of ecological civilization of "respecting nature, adapting to nature, protecting nature", and aims to "cherish the earth and promote the harmonious coexistence of human beings and nature".

In order to respond to and promote the construction of social nature education, to the general public to show the protection and development achievements of the UNESCO global geopark, Dunhuang UNESCO Global Geopark joint China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam and other countries in the 24 UNESCO global geoparks to participate in the joint organization of the second Asia-Pacific Geoparks Week and the "Friendship Sister Parks Mutual Interaction" series of popular science activities. The event will be held from April 19th to April 25th, 2021, with the participation of 24 geoparks from China, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam.
Dunhuang UNESCO Global Geopark held the "World Earth Day" activity in the Square of the Visitor Center of Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring, which was carried out in the form of community exhibitions, video broadcasting, and science quizzes with prizes, etc., and helped the exchange of science popularization influence and resource information of the world's geoparks. Simultaneously, the Fifth Geopark Photography Competition "The Most Beautiful Earth Marks" was launched immediately to further expand the influence of the activity.

As of July 2020, the total number of UNESCO UNESCO Global Geoparks is 161, distributed in 41 countries and regions around the world, there are 41 UNESCO Global Geoparks in China, Dunhuang UNESCO Global Geopark is the first one in Gansu Province, the 32nd UNESCO Global Geopark in China, and the 112th UNESCO Global Geopark in the world.
Located in Dunhuang City, Gansu Province, Dunhuang UNESCO Global Geopark consists of Yardang Geoarea, Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring Scenic, as well as natural landscape tourism area and cultural heritage tourism area, covering an area of 2,180.75 square kilometers. The special geological background and extreme arid climate conditions form the geomorphological landscape, and the special geographical location and the cultural sites formed by the ancient Silk Road here become one. Yardang landforms, Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring, as well as deserts, Gobi and West Lake wetlands is the creation of nature; Mogao Grottoes, the ancient Silk Road cultural sites of Yangguan Pass, Yumen Pass and the ancient military sites of the Great Wall of Han Dynasty, Hecang City and so on is a reflection of Dunhuang's cultural history.

It is understood that, in order to ensure the smooth progress of this activity, Dunhuang Yardang Service Center advance planning, multi-directional docking Shennongjia, Guangdong Danxiashan, Zhejiang Yandangshan, Guangxi Leye - Fengshan, Hunan Xiangxi, Guizhou Zhijin Cave, Fujian Longyan and other eighteen geoparks, coordinating the activities of the promotional materials and the UNESCO global geoparks reward tickets and other matters, for the smooth organization of the event to lay a solid foundation.
